Find a Great Esthetician

Choosing the right esthetician can make all the difference in achieving glowing, healthy skin. Here are some key factors to consider when searching for the perfect esthetician:

• A skilled esthetician acts as a detective, asking detailed questions about your daily habits to tailor the most effective skincare protocol for your needs and bring light to simple (usually free!) changes to your current regimen.

• Every skin is unique, a good esthetician will customize your treatment to address your specific concerns and goals.

• Cleanliness is non-negotiable. Ensure that the esthetician's workspace is immaculate and meets the highest standards of hygiene.

• While some treatments may cause mild sensations like tingling or tightness, facials should never be painful (although extractions may be uncomfortable at times).

• Your esthetician should stay up-to-date on the latest skincare treatments, ingredients, and advancements — and be eager to share their knowledge with you.

Red Flags

~They show no interest in learning about your skincare habits or concerns.

~They fail to provide guidance on at-home skincare routines and may appear distracted or disengaged during your appointment.

~They do not have their licenses and certifications proudly framed in a conspicuous place.

Your skin care treatments should be provided by a properly trained professional. Don’t hesitate to ask your skin care therapist about their background, training, and experience especially as it relates to the treatment you are considering.

LMEs are sometimes called Medical Estheticians because they perform more complex and potentially dangerous procedures. While basic estheticians may work in a clinical setting, they more often work in spas or beauty salons, providing basic facials and waxing services. In states that have requirements, Master Estheticians complete twice the amount of training as basic estheticians while also passing both written and practical state board examinations for licensure.

I have been a professional member of Associated Skin Care Professionals since 2012. Members have been validated as meeting their state’s licensing credentials and/or core training requirements, and agree to follow a code of ethics which ensures you’ll be treated responsibly and with the utmost respect. ASCP also provides its members with comprehensive resources that allow us to keep up with changing trends, making certain you’ll receive the most up-to-date therapies available.

I hope these tips are helpful!
